Throughout my childhood growing up in Chicago I always knew I wanted to get out and see the world. The great question of course, how does a snotty nose kid of nine years old go about it armed with a simple Kodak camera? It wasn't until high school while attending The School School of the Art Institute of Chicago that I finally recieved some formal photography training to put the wheels in motion to see and shoot the world.
Upon graduating high school I accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Minnesota State University in Mankato Minnesota where I majored in business management and fine art. Following school I was swept away to Seattle and the great northwest. Once settled, I began shooting professionally for the Sporting News and Major League Baseball while moonlighting in various art galleries throughout the Seattle area. After years of freelance shooting I was drawn into the health and fitness industry where I focused on marketing and sales development.
It was during this time that I became involved both as a photographer and a collector of one of the most vibrant, and creative centers of fine art glass in the world. The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, and the Pilchuck School of Glass in Stanwood has elevated our region into one of the world's premiere destinations. The best and brightest in the world come here to the Puget Sound to pass along knowledge and inspiration to those finding themselves in this medium. I have had the ongoing pleasure of working, and documenting this vital part of Seattle's artistic community.
At the same time I also returned to a passion of mine which is portraiture. Photographing people allows me to get into my clients inner self. I believe it to be one of the most rewarding, and challenging aspects of my photography. I find that the environment in which the portrait is taken, along with the subjects freedom and creativity to influence the image (especially with kids) can give the final product a true sense of authenticity.
I've been a resident of West Seattle since 1992. In my spare time I'm working hard to develop a series of children's books designed to entertain and educate kids about the joys and adventure of travel. I also enjoy watching my kids participate in their sports, and walking my fearless protector, Maggie who guards and protects me from the dreaded neighborhood squirrel population.
